Question 85551This question is from textbook
: Word problems is something I have never been good at. This is one of those.
Will I convert the 9% to decimal? Then, where do I go from there to solve this?
Solve the problem (not in Text). Cindy will require $11,000 in 2 years to return to college to get an MBA degree. How much money should she ask her parents for now so that, if she invests it at 9% compounded continuously, she will have enough for school? (Round your answer to the nearest dollar.)

Question 85548This question is from textbook Blitzer
: Ugh is all I can say with this and some others I will be posting.
Am I to subtract the log5's and add the ones in the ()?
Question (not in book):

Question 85576This question is from textbook
: Page 810 Problem:56) If the inflation rate is 3%, how much will a house now worth $110,000 be worth in 5 years?
I've done this so far...now I don't know where to go now.
S = t future years
C= 110,000
R = 3%
Note: Period of 60 months (5years).
S=C (1+r)t
3.00% = .03
S=110,000 (1+.03)t

Question 85907: Given the formula: y = e^.0023x (obtained from an Excel Trend Line function)
How do I solve for x?
I got to:
(y/2.8)^(1/.0023) = e^x
...and then:
natural log((y/2.8)^(1/.0023))
Further, I attempted to convert it to an Excel worksheet function as:
ln((y/2.8)^(1/.0023))
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Question 86225This question is from textbook Blitzer
: Why is this wrong?
Problem#: 12- Solve each exponential equation by expressing each side as a power of the same base and then equating exponents.
12) 125x = 625
I put for a solution as:
5*5*5X=5*5*5*5
(5^3x)=5^4
x=5^4/5^3
x=5
Why is this wrong?
MAYBE THEY WANTED IT LEFT WITH EXPONENTS THUS:
X=5^(4-3)
X=5^1 ??????

: Problem Solution:
Page 822
Problem #: 8- Write the equation in its equivalent exponential form.
8) log5 125 = y
I put for an answer:-
5^y = 125
Why is it wrong when the question asked to write the equation into its equivalent exponential form? The college teacher says it is wrong and was suppose to solve for Y. The question does not ask that.This question is from textbook Blitzer

Question 86685: The number of bacteria in a culture grew exponentially. When the experiment began, there were 100,000. Ten minutes later, that number grew to 220,000. Which of the following equations could be used to model this situation?
a. y=220,000(1.08)^x
b. y=100,000(1.08)^x
c. y=100,000(0.92)^x
d. y=220,000(0.92)^x

Question 87225This question is from textbook Algebra & Trigonometry
: 1. I need to solve the following equation: log5x=log4+log(x-3). I think the right way to solve it is to get everything to one side, try for a common base and then solve for x?
2. Solve the problem. Since 1950, the growth in the world population in millions closely fits the exponential function A(t)=26000e^0.018t, where t is the number of years since 1950. Estimate the population in the year 2018 to the nearest million. I am stuck on this one, I am having trouble setting up the problem. I think I need to plug 2018 in for time, get a value and then plug it back into the problem.
I appreciate your help!
Sincerely,
