: the amount g(in trillions of cubic feet) of natural gas consumed in the US from 1940-1970 can be modeled by g=2.91(1.07) to the t where t is the number of years since 1940.
44) graph the function
45) estimate the natural gas consumption in 1955This question is from textbook algebra 2

Question 180439: do exponential functions only model phenomena that grow, or can they also model phenomena that decay? Explain what is different in the form of the function in each case.
I feel that they can grow or show decay if you have a exponential that is positive or negative

Question 182605: Population studies of fiddler crabs on a tropical island reported 1.1 x 10^4 in 1980 and 1.5 x 10^4 in 1982. Predict the time that the maximum population, 2.0 x 10^4, that can be supported by the island's resources will be reached.

Question 183365: For the years 2000–2005, the median price of a single-family home in the United States can be approximated by the exponential function A = 227,200(1.087)t, where t is the number of years after the year 2000. What is the growth rate of housing prices for that period? What is the price of the house in the year 2005?

Question 185081: I hope someone can explain where I went wrong?????
The chemical element strontium has a half-life of 25 years. If 32g were present initially, how long will it take for the amount to be reduced to 2g? Set up an exponential equation and solve algebraically.
This is what I did:
y=32(1/2)^x/25
2=32(1/2)^x/25
2/32=1/2^x/25
1/16=1/2^x/5
Then I finished it using logs but my teacher said that I was supposed to solve it algebraically !!??!?!? HOW?
This is how I finished it:
(log(1/16)/ log(1/2))=(log(1/2)^x/5)/(log(1/2))
4=x/5
20=x
