Question 150660: Hi
Please help me tell the difference between a logarithmic function and a logarithmic equation? I have to come up a a logarithmic function. I wanted to turn my exponential function into the logarithmic function. My expo function is f(x)=6^x. My answer is f=18, is that correct? Please help me with the log function. Thank you in advance.

Evaluate the functions for the values of x given as 1,2,4,8,and 16. Describe the differences in the rate at which each function changes with increasing values of x.
f(x)=5x-3
f(x)=x^2-3x+2
f(x)=2x^3+7x^2-x-1
f(x)=10^x
f(x)=1n x

Question 152190: I'm drowning in Logs & Inverses: My question states:
Determine if this is a one-to-one. If yes, find the formula for the inverse.
f(x) = (5x+4)/(7x+6)
I have listed it as a one-to-one and have written the following:
Changed f(x) to "y"
y =(5x+4)/(7x+6)
Then substituted "x" for "y" to get
x = (5y+4)/(7y+6)
My problem is that I don't know how to write the inverse.
Please help.

Question 152520: Q: e^(2x+5)=40
its pretty simple i think, this is what i've figured out.
ln(e^(2x+5))=ln(40)
2x+5=ln(40)
2x+5 = 3.688
2x = -2.688
x = -1.344
im not sure if thats right, i didnt really pay attention in logs,and e's.

Question 152548: HELP! im not sure how to go about solving these 2 simple problems!
1) ln(5x) + ln(9) = ln(6x + 2)
2) 3^(2x +4)= 27^ (x-7)
i really dont just want the answers, i want to understand how to do them, and why they work that way. if someone can please help me to understand this, i'd be very greatful. THANKS

Question 153055: Suppose that the function P=11+44ln x represents the percentage of inbound e-mail in the U.S. that is considered spam, where x is the number of years after 2002. Carry all calculations to six decimals on each intermediate step when necessary.
a. Use this model to determine the percentage of spam in the year 2006 to the nearest tenth of a percent.
b. Use this model to determine in how many years it will take for the percent of spam to reach 85% provided that law enforcement regarding spammers does not change.

Question 151893: Use properties of logarithms to expand the logarithmic expression as much as possible. Where possible, evaluate logarithmic expressions without using calculator.
log (subscript)2 (16/square root of(x-1))
I think it might be 4-1/2log(x-1)? Am I close?

Question 153160: Hi
How would I solve the following: Exponent and logarithm as function of power
True or false: The function "f(x) = 3x" grows three times faster than the function "g(x) = x". Explain. I got two different answer when I tried to solve this logarithm. Can you please help me.
Answer: False.
If x = 3 it would make f(3)=3 * 3 =9 and g(3)=3
If x = 4 then f(4)=12 and g(4)=4
if x=5 then f(5)=15 and g(5)=5
although f(x) is 3 times greater than g(x) the growth of f(x) is not 3 times faster than g(x) because from 9 the change of f(x) is only 3 and from 12 it only changed by 3 again. wherein it should have incurred a change of 9. If f(x) grows three times faster than g(x) the equation should be f(x)=x raise to the 3rd power and g(x)=x.
Answer is True
The question is on rate of growth, ie slope.
slope of g(x) is 1.
slope of f(x) is 3.

Question 153207This question is from textbook elementary and intermediate algebra
: A) Write the sentence (-x)2 is not equal to -x2 in words. In your own words explain why (-x)2 and -x2 are not equivalent. Provide an example to support your explanation. B) Evaluate (a) 3x0 and (b) (3x)0 when x is not 0. Are the results different? If so, explain in your own words why they are different. If not, then state so.
A student writes down the following as part of her response: a ) 3(to the 2nd power) times 3(to the 3rd power) = 729. and b) 3(to the negative 2nd power) = -9. Are her answers correct? If not, explain why you think her answers are incorrect. Include in your explanation what she did wrong, if any. What would you advise her to do instead?
i hope this makes sense to you...the way i typed it. please let me know if you need additional info. It is the chapter on Laws/Types of Exponents. Thank you thank you thank you
