Question 912667: -3 + (8+2x)^(5/4)=29
Not exactly sure which section this belongs to, but what's throwing me off is the fractional power. I got to (8+2x)^(5/4) = 32, and I tried to simplify it by putting 2x + 8 to the 5th power, and then to the fourth root, but I was still confused on how to solve from there. I'd really appreciate any hints or help with this, it's really mind boggling to me.

The exponents sometimes are rendered difficult to read, so some comments are included.

as you found before struggling.

, commutative for addition. Also 32 is a power of 2.

, which should present no complications for signs; raising both sides to the four-fifths power.

, power on left side is 1 and power on the right side is five multiplied by four-fifths.

-----This should now be easy to finish.
