Question 894072: Suppose that a wave forms in shallow water. The depth "d" of the water (in feet) and the velocity (v) of the wave (in feet per second) are related by the equation v = sqrt 32d. If a wave forms in water with a depth of 8.5 feet, what is its velocity?
Round your answer to the nearest tenth.
That's the best that I can type this question.
I hope that I asked it in the appropriate section.
Please help me. Thank you. :)

Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
this should simply be a matter of replacing d with 8.5 and solving.
the formula is v = sqrt(32d).
d = 8.5 feet.
the formula becomes v = sqrt(32*8.5) which becomes:
v = sqrt(272) which is equal to 16.4924225 feet per second.
if you need an exact answer, then the exact answer is v = sqrt(272).
otherwise you can round to the number of decimal places you require.
