Describe the transformations performed on f(x)=x^2, to make the following:
F(x)=2x^2-1
Start with f(x) = x²

which has this blue graph:



then we multiply the right side by 2, which stretches the graph
by a factor or 2:

giving the green graph:

g(x) = 2x²



Then we subtract 1 from the right side, which shifts the graph
down 1 unit.  That's the red graph.
