Question 84503: write the equation of the line having x-intercept -2/5 and y-intercepts 5/8
Answer by checkley75(3666) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Y=mX+b IS THE STANDARD EQUATION FOR A LINE WHERE m=SLOPE, b=Y INTERCEPT.
(-2/5,0) & (0,5/8) ARE THE TWO GIVEN POINTS. THUS YOU NEED TO REPLACE X & Y AND SOLVE FOR THE SLOPE:
0=m(-2/5)+5/8
-2M/5=-5/8 NOW CROSS MULTIPLY:
-2M*8=-25
-16M=-25
M=-25/-16
M=25/16
Y=25X/16+5/8
