Hi there, thank you for your question..
Firstly remember BIMDAS - Brackets,Indices,Multiplication,Division,Addition,Subtraction
Now your question can be broken down following those steps:
8(-9) is multiplication
3(-2)^2 is the same as as 3*(-2)^2, notice that (-2)^2 is the form of indices and that I comes before M in the BIMDAS rules..
also note a negative number squared = a positive number
therefore your answer is as followed:
8(-9)+3(-2)^2
= -72 + 3 * (-2)(-2)
= -72 + 3 * 4
= -72 + 12
therefore your final answer = -60
