What is the lowest-degree polynomial with integer coefficients
and the roots 6, i, and –i?
Two factors
(x-6) = 0
and
x = +/-i
square both sides
x^2 = -1
x^2 + 1 = 0
:
FOIL (x-6)(x^2+1)
x^3 + x - 6x^2 - 6
in order
x^3 - 6x^2 + x - 6
