The domain is the set of allowable values for the independent variable (which is usually x). The x in your function is in the base of a logarithm. The rules for bases of logarithms are:Since the x in the base is squared, it is not possible for the base to be negative. But it could be 0 or 1. The x values that make zero or 1 are 0, 1 and -1. So the domain of the function is all real numbers except 0, 1 and -1.
