Question 619232: what is the solution to log (6x-2)-log (x-3)=1
Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
log(6x-2) - log(x-3) = 1
log((6x-2)/(x-3) = 1
10^1 = (6x-2)/(x-3)
10 (x-3) = 6x-2
10x-30 = 6x-2
4x = 28
x = 7
-----
use the following concepts.
log(a) - log(b) = log(a/b)
log(a) = y if and only if 10^y = a
-----
remember:
log(a) = log(10,a) = log of a to the base of 10
this is assumed whenever you say log of something and don't mention the base.
also:
log function of calculator implies base of 10
