Solve for x:
Replace: and
Simplify.
Add the exponents on the left side.
Since the bases (that's 2) are equal, the exponents are equal, so...
Multiply through by 3 to clear the fraction.
Subtract 9 from both sides.
Divide by 12.

Check:
Substitute x = -5/12

Simplify.
