Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

(1/2)x^2+x-(7/2)=4
---
Multiply thru by 2 to get:
x^2 + 2x - 7 = 8
---
Rearrange:
x^2 + 2x - 15 = 0
Factor:
(x+5)(x-3) = 0
x = -5 or x = 3

..
multiply by 2

..
x^2+2x-7 =8
x^2+2x-15 =0
x^2+5x-3x-15=0
x(x+5)-3(x+5)=0
(x+5)(x-3)=0
x=-5 OR x=3
