adding logarithms is analogous to multiplying their arguments
___ ln(x) + ln(8) = ln(8x)

ln(x^2+12) = ln (8x) ___ if the logarithms are equal , the arguments must be equal

x^2 + 12 = 8x ___ x^2 - 8x + 12 = 0

factoring ___ (x - 6)(x - 2) = 0
