Question 182676: 6b.
True or false: The function "f(x) = 3x" grows three times faster than the function "g(x) = x." Explain.
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
True or false: The function "f(x) = 3x" grows three times faster than the function "g(x) = x." Explain.
----------------
Neither is considered to be a "growth" function.
y = 3x has a greater slope then y = x but both
have a constant slope.
The y-values increase 3 times faster with y = 3x than they do with y = x.
-------------------
A problem like this is a good discussion problem but the word "growth"
is really ambiguous except as it relates to functions of the form
y = ab^x where the function is a growth function if b > 1 and a decay
function is 0 < b < 1
