Start with the given equation

Take the natural log of both sides

Rewrite the left side using the identity . In other words, pull down the exponent and place it in front of the "ln"

Take the natural log of "e" to get 1

Multiply

Divide both sides by 2 to isolate x

So the answer is which approximates to

e raised to the 2x = 8
============================
Take the natural log of both sides to get:
2x = ln(8)
x = (1/2)*2.07944
x = 1.03972
