: The directions say to use a property of logarithms to evaluate the expression. log base3(3x9)
The answer key in the book says the answer is 3, but I keep coming up with 5.725. Can you show me how to do this problem?

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
log base3(3x9)
---------------
log means "exponent" or "power".
--------------------------
You are asked for the exponent of 3 that gives you 3*9
--------------------------
log3 (3*9) = log3 (27) = 3
because 3^3 = 27
---------------------
