Question 1178434: Total emissions of carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels have been increasing at about 3% per year (data from 2010 to 2011). If emissions continue to increase at this rate, about how much higher will total emissions be in 2035 than in 2010?

this is a compound interest sort of problem
2035 is 25 more years of a 3% increase per year. Rule of 70 says doubling time is 70 (or 72)/rate, so here would expect the doubling to occur in 24 years. Would predict about double
1.03^25=2.0937 increase.
They will be 109.37% higher than they were in 2010.
