Question 151602: if (7+4) x 2 = (4+7) x2, then this is by the commutative law of addition.
at first it looks like the distributive law of multiplication with respect to addition, but, in fact, the only difference in the two equations is that the 7+4 becomes 4+7 or a+b=b+a, which means the law that applies here is the commutative law of addition.
is this correct?

Question 153744: i need help on solving this problem using the distributive property..
-2 (x+1) + x = -8
i tried the distributive property and multiplied -2(x) and -2(1) which gave me -2x-2
I'm stuck on the part that is adding the x next to the parenthesis , i don't know what to do with that x i don't know if to add it to the -2x or if to do another step with it..
please help. thank you
