Question 994716: I have a question my teacher talks about distributive property today and this is what I learn.
(X+2)(X+2) is equal to x^2+4x+4 not x^2+4
I don't understand when to do the distributive property and when to do the actual multiplication with the expression.

(X+2)(X+2) is equal to x^2+4x+4 not x^2+4
---------
(x+2)*(x+2) = x*(x+2) + 2*(x+2)
= x^2+2x + 2x+4
= x^2 + 4x + 4

I'm convinced.

The Distributive Property is an algebra property which is to a single term and two or more terms inside a set of parentheses. Take a look at the problem below.

Because the binomial "" is in a set of parentheses, when following the Order of Operations, you must first find the answer of , then multiply it by . This gives an answer of .
so, in your case we have two binomials to multiply:
...here you use The Distributive Property
