The rule for evaluating an expression is
do all multiplication and division in the order they appear from left to right, then addition and subtraction in the order they appear from left to right.
note that parenthesis say do me first
example
2 * 8 + 2*(6 + 9)
evaluation gives
16 + 2*15
16 + 30 = 46
