Commutative - think of it as driving to school and then driving back. It is the same distance just in different directions.

(5+7)(6+1) is going to school
(6+1)(5+7) is coming back home
...
For distributive, as in 4(16+2); think of it as passing out (distributing) a number. 4 is being passed out to 16 and to 2.
4(16+2) = 4(16) + 4(2)
...
For associative, as in 4+(3+2)=(4+3)+2; think of it as grouping (associating) numbers together.
