the idea is to take the steps necessary so that the  is isolated on one side of the EQ

2x+3x-5+7=10x+3-6x-4    ||combine Like Terms on each side of EQ

 5x + 2 = 4x - 1        || combine Like Terms from BOTH sides of the EQ

5x+ 2 - 4x - 2 = 4x-1  - 4x -2

  x = -3   ||Note: when x has been isolated, the we can Read x = -3 !



7=-5(2a-1)-(-11a+6)  ||"eliminate the parentheses"  Yes!

7 = -10a + 5 +11a - 6   ||combine Like Terms on each side of EQ

7 = a - 1               || combine Like Terms from BOTH sides of the EQ

8 = a
