12s^2 - 51s - 45 = 0

Divide thru by 3:

4s^2 - 17s - 15 = 0

4s^2 -20s+3s -15 = 0
-----
4s(s-5) + 3(s-5) = 0

(s-5)(4s+3) = 0
-----
s = 5 or s = -3/4
