Question 293305: Is 10 X (9+5) = 10 + 5, or 10 X (9+5) = 10 X 9 + 10 X 5, or 10 X (9 +5) = 10 X 9 X 5, or 10 X (9 + 5) = 10 + 9 + 5 right?
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
What you're describing is the distributive property which is
a X (b + c) = a X b + a X c ... where the 'X' means multiplication
So
10 X (9+5) = 10 X 9 + 10 X 5
Notation note: since 'x' is used as a variable, we abandon the idea that 'x' is a multiplication symbol and instead turn to the * symbol.
