Here is the problem:

step 1 - distribute the first x through the second parenthesis to get
x^2 - 2x
step 2 - distribute the (+1) through the second parenthesis to get
x - 2.
combine the like terms from these distributions to get
x^2 -x -2
change all of the signs because of the negative out front to get
-x^2 + x + 2
