It says to use q for the number
so let q=the number
product means multiply
so we are multiplying q and the decimal for 26%
26%=26/100=.26
so now we make an algebraic (using a letter for an unknown) expression (terms joined together ) not joined by an equal sign. If there is an equal sign then it is an equation
.26q
