-2 (x+1) + x = -8

i tried the distributive property and multiplied -2(x) and -2(1) which gave me -2x-2
I'm stuck on the part that is adding the x next to the parenthesis , i don't know what to do with that x i don't know if to add it to the -2x or if to do another step with it..
please help. thank you

-2x-2%2Bx=-8Distribute, you did that right.
-x-2=-8Next, add x terms
-x=-6Add 2 to both sides
x=6Multiply both sides by -1.

You were right on the first step
-2x+-+2+%2B+x+=+-8
To simplify, add 2 to both sides
-2x+%2B+x+=+2+-+8
Now you can use the distributive property again, just in reverse
x%28-2+%2B+1%29+=+-6
x%2A%28-1%29+=+-6
Now multiply both sides by -1
x+=+6 answer
To check the answer, just plug it back into the original equation
-2%28x+%2B+1%29+%2B+x+=+-8
-2%286+%2B+1%29+%2B+6+=+-8
%28-2%29%2A7+%2B+6+=+-8
-14+%2B+6+=+-8
-8+=+-8
