Question 121951: I'm actually not sure if this question falls in this category but it looks like it does. I help my daughter with her Math homework every night but for some reason, this question really has me stumped. Please help!
-3(x+4)=3(3-x) what does x equal??? I've tried -3x-12=9-3x then i added 12 to each side: -3x=21-3x i then tried to add 3x to each side but that didn't seem to work. the best answer i could come up with was x-x=7 and that just doesn't make sense.
thanks!!

-3(x+4)=3(3-x) what does x equal?
-3x-12 = 9-3x
-12 = 9
That is a contradiction and tells you
there are no solutions to the equation.
================
Why did that happen?
It happened because you assumed the "x" on
the left side had the same value as the "x"
on the right side.
As a result you ran into a contradiction.
x on the left cannot equal the x on the right.

Answer by Earlsdon(6294) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
There is nothing wrong with what you have done here!
The answer is that the "equation" you have is inconsistent and there no value of x that will satisfy it so no matter what value of x you choose, the left side will never equal the right side.
