Question 831972: how do you write a linear equation in slope-intercept form for the line that passes through (4,6) and is perpendicular to the line described as y=x-3
i got the answer y=-2-3 i doubt that answer is right so i was wondering if you could help me find the right answer for algebra, Thanks
Answer by josgarithmetic(39620) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The slope for y=x-3 is 1. The slope for a line in the place, perpendicular to y=x-3 is -1.
You want a line y=-x+b, and you do not yet know b.
(*) Solve for b.
y+x=b.
(*) Use the coordinates for the point given which this line must contain.
b=6+4
b=10
(*) The line you want is y=-x+10
