Hi,

Find the equation of the line that contains the point (-3,4) and is perpendicular to the line x-3y=6

Using the standard slope-intercept form for an equation of a line y = mx + b  where m is the slope and b the y-intercept.  

 x - 3y = 6  0r  y = (1/3)x - 2 ,  m = (1/3)

New Line:

m = -3  (perpendicular to above Line)

Using point-slope formula, , equation of the line to find the equation of a line with slope m and  on the line.

 y - 4 = -3(x+3)

y = -3x -5
