Question 76905: Help! I'm stuck. The question is: In the xy-coordinate plane, the graph of x = y squared - 4 intersects line "l" at (0,p) and (5,t). What is the greatest possible value of the slope of "l"? When I plugged in the p and t coordinates to get the full coordinates, I got a slope of 1/5, so I thought maybe -5 would be the slope of an intersecting line. Can someone help? Thanks.

when you plugged in the p and t coordinates, did you use both the positive and negative roots?

to get the greatest slope value, you're looking for the greatest change in the y values (the x values are fixed)

when x is 0, y is 2 or -2...when x is 5, y is 3 or -3...the greatest y change is from -2 to 3...this would give a slope of 1
