Question 718485: Solve the following system of equations.
8x+5y=-10
5x+7y=17

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
8 x + 5 y = -10 .............1
Total value
5 x + 7 y = 17 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by -7
Multiply (2) by 5
-56 x -35 y = 70
25 x + 35 y = 85
Add the two equations
-31 x = 155
/ -31
x = -5
plug value of x in (1)
8 x + 5 y = -10
-40 + 5 y = -10
5 y = -10 + 40
5 y = 30
y = 6
