Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
solve for x if y=0 in the following equation:
4x^4 - 6x^3 + 9x^2 - 8x - 3 = 0
Rational candidates are of the form p/q
where p is a factor of 3 and q is a factor of 4
Check: +-1,+-3, +-(1/2), +-(1/4), +-(3/2), +-(3/4)
Graphing the polynomial I find zeroes around
x=-0.2730646 and x=1.2973883 which leads me to think
that the roots are irrationsl and can only be approximated
by graphing.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Stan H.
