SOLUTION: When I solved the problem, my answers come close but am slightly off. Maybe my graph isn't detailed enough. 3X+Y=5 -2X+3Y=4 Equation 1: 3x+0=5 (Solving for X) 3x=5 x=5/3

Question 61606: When I solved the problem, my answers come close but am slightly off. Maybe my graph isn't detailed enough.
3X+Y=5
-2X+3Y=4
Equation 1: 3x+0=5 (Solving for X)
3x=5
x=5/3 or 1 2/3 (1 2/3,0)
3x0+Y=5 (Solving for Y)
Y-5 (0,5)
Equation 2: -2x+3(0)=4 (Solving for X)
-2X=4
X=-2 (-2,0)
-2(0)+3Y=4 (Solving for Y)
3Y=4
Y=4/3 or 1 1/3 (0,1 1/3)
Plotting graph intersects appear to be at 1 1/3 and 1 3/4 but doesn't compute when placed in original formulas.
Thanks

Solving for y, we get y=-3x+5 for the first equation and for the second equation. Looking at the graph of those two lines, it appears they intersect at (1,2). Substituting x=1 and y=2 in both equations gives us 3+2=5 and -2+6=4, respectively, which simplifies to 5=5 and 4=4. Because both of those are true statements, our answer of (1,2) is correct!
