Using the standard slope-intercept form for an equation of a line y = mx + b 

 where m is the slope and b the y-intercept. 

 equation of line with  Slope -3 and passes thru pt(-1,2)    

y = -3x + b   |using ordered pair pt(-1,2) to solve for b

2 = 3 +b

 -1 = b     y = -3x -1

Note: line slants to the left m < 0
