Question 368756: Using the graph of the function y = −4x + 3 with domain x is less than or equal to 0, identify the range of the function.
How would I solve this?

Answer by neatmath(302)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The domain is the possible x values, in this case x is less than or equal to zero.

The range is all the possible y values.

To find those possible y values, just start plugging in x values into the equation y=-4x+3:

x=0 implies y=3

x=-1 implies y=7

x=-2 implies y=11

x=-10 implies y=43

x=-100 implies y=403

You can then see that the farther away from zero we get in the negative direction, the bigger the y value will become.

In fact, as the x value approaches -infinity, the y value approaches +infinity! In other words, the smaller the x value, the bigger y becomes!

So, our domain is {x:x is less than or equal to 0} or (-infinity, 0]

Our range then is [0,+infinity)

Of course you would use the infinity sign when you write this out on your paper.

I hope this helps!
