Question 235997: ok im not sure how to figure this out.
i was given the coordinates (0,4) and (0,10) or (10,0) ( not sure about it)
and then they asked me what the y intercept was as well as the slope and the choices were :
-5/2
14
2
-6
10
-10
and these are the choices for both the y intercept and the slope.
then i was asked what is the equation for the y intercept and slope or was it the equation for figuring out the slope ...i dont remember but these were the choices.
y= -5/2+10
y= 5/2x+-10
y= -10x+5/2
y= -10x-5/2
y= 10x-5/2
so can you please help me figure out the answers and tell me how i would do it i dont understand because you would think that you would need a graph to figure out this question but i am not given one.

Let me try to help.
I think that your points are(0,4) and (10,0). I am going to use these. To determine the slope, you will need to do the Rise over run.In mathematics, slope (designated by the letter 'm') is defined as the ratio of the 'Y' axis to the 'X' axis between 2 points. The formula for determining the slope between 2 points is:Slope = m = (Y2 -Y1) ÷ (X2 -X1) In your case, the slope is -2.5 or -5/2. In order to find the equation for the y intercept and slope, you need to know that the slope intercept equation is y=mx+b where m is slope and b is the y intercept. The y intercept is where the line crosses the Y axis. In your case, it is 10.
In your problem, the slope is -5/2, and Y intercept is 10, so your equation would be y=(-5/2)x +10.
