Answer by Stitch(470)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Given:
Equation 1:
Equation 2:
---------------------------
Solution:
First solve equation 2 for one of teh variables, I picked X.
Add Y to both sides

Now plug (8 + Y) into equation 1 for X

Combine like terms
Subtract 8 from both sides
Divide both sides by 4

Now plug 1 into equation 2 for Y to find X

Add 1 to both sides

---------------------------
Check your answer:
Using plug Y = 1 & X = 9 into equation 1

Simplify
