SOLUTION: It's not really about "graphing" actually...it's about a "whisker plot", could someone help me with it anyways??
I got a stem-and-leaf plot; 100, 92, 94, 95, 81, 82, 87, 89, 71, 7

Question 214169: It's not really about "graphing" actually...it's about a "whisker plot", could someone help me with it anyways??
I got a stem-and-leaf plot; 100, 92, 94, 95, 81, 82, 87, 89, 71, 71, 73, 61, 62, 68, 51, 55
mean= 1232/16= 77
mode= 71
median= 89+71/2= 160/2= 80
For the "whisker plot" I also need the first and third quartiles and dont understand how to get them, could someone explain to me how to find out what the first and third quartiles are?
I understood the rest...just didnt really catch how to get the first and third quartiles.

The same way you find the median. Once your data is in numerical order, you can find the median by finding that data point that has half of the data larger and the other half of the data smaller, i.e. the one in the middle when they are arranged in numerical order.
The first quartile is that data point that has 25% of the data smaller and 75% of the data larger. The third quartile is the other side, 75% is smaller, 25% is larger. Another way of saying it is that the first quartile is the median of the data below the overall median and the third quartile is the median of the data above the overall median.
As always, if you have an odd number of data points, you pick the data point in the exact middle. If you have an even number of data points, you take the average of the two middle points.
For example, 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. The median is 5. 1, 3, 5, 7, the average of 3 and 5 is 4, so the median is 4.
