the x-axis measures the time elapsed in hours.

traveling at 40 miles per hour, you will reach the park that's 20 miles away in 1/2 hour.

you start at 0 hours and you reach the park at .5 hours.

you stay at the park for 2 hours, therefore, you are 20 miles away from home from .5 hours to 2.5 hours.

you come home at 20 miles per hour, therefore it takes 1 hour to get back home.

you go from 20 miles away from home at 2.5 hours to 0 miles away from home at 3.5 hours.
