Question 100233: Hello,

I need help determining the value of r so that the line through (-4,8) and (r,-6) has a slope of 2/3.

Thank you

Answer by edjones(8007)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(-4,8) (r,-6) slope=2/3.
slope=m=change in y/change in x
m=2/3=(8-(-6))/(-4-r)
2/3=(8+6)/(-4-r)
2/3=14/-(r+4)
2/3=-14/(r+4)
Multiply 3(r+4) times both sides to get rid of fractions:2(r+4)=-14*3
2r+8=-42
2r=-42-8
2r=-50
r=-25
