Question 87460: If the remote control is not within my reach, then I will watch the same channel all night.
I need the converse, inverse for the sentences.
I came up with for the contrapositive: If you do not watch the same channel all night, then the remote control is not within my reach.
Is this correct?

Answer by rapaljer(4671)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The contrapositive that you gave is not correct! You must reverse the phrases, and also negate both phrases:
If I do NOT watch the same channel all night, then the remote IS within my reach.

The converse is reversing the phrases:
If I watch the same channel all night, then the remote control is not within my reach.

The inverse is negating both phrases:
If the remote control IS within my reach, then I will NOT watch the same channel all night.

By the way, it really does NOT matter how you phrase the statements as to whether you write them in future, present or past tense. This is irrelevant. What is important is that you have the phrases and "NOT's" in the right place, relative to the "if" and "then."
