Question 136990: Inside a semicircular tunnel of diameter 20 feet, a vertical support beam is placed 6 feet from the side of the tunnel. How tall is the beam?
I tried using the pythagorean theorem. Since the beam hits the diameter at a 90 degree angle. I use 6^2+x^2=90^2
I did not get any of the choices. I guessed by looking at the picture that the answer is less than the diameter but greater that the distance from the side. I got 9.2 ft.

Question 133785: A horse is tied at one corner of a 10m by 20m barn. If the rope is 25m long, find the area of the region in which the horse can graze. Leave your answer in terms of PI.
Area of the a circle is A=r^2Pi
r=25m is the length of the rope or the radius
The corner of the 20m x 10m barn is the center of the circle.
Therefore the each side measurement of the barn will add up to 25m.
20+5=25m 10+15=25m
The area of the barn will be a third of the circle which means the horse can only graze 2/3 of the region.
Notice: A=r^2Pi r=25m

Since the horse can only graze 2/3 of the region, the area formula is:
A=2/3r^2Pi
=2/3 (25)^2Pi
=2/3(625)Pi
=1250/3Pi or
=416.67Pi
