In a circle of radius 5cm, two parallel chords of length 5 cm form opposite sides of a rectangle. What is the area of the rectangle?
***
length of chords=width of rectangle=5 cm
construct right triangle as follows:
hypotenuse=2*radius=10 cm
known leg=chord=5 cm
length of rectangle=√(10^2-5^2)=√(100-25)=√75
area of rectangle=length*width=5*√75=43.3 cm^2
