This is a Pythagorean problem.
Draw a line from the circle's centre
to the chord so that the chord is split
in two equal pieces (bisected).
This gives you a right angled triangle
complete with the radius that forms
the hypotenuse.
The distance from the centre to the chord
is one side of the triangle.(4 cm.)
and the other side is halve the chord (12 cm)
4^2 + 12^2 = radius^2
radius^2 = 160
radius = square root of 160
= 12.7 (1 decimal place)
