If a square has a perimeter of 36, it must have a side measure of 9. Then it has an inscribed circle radius of half of that, or 4.5. The circumscribed circle has a radius that is larger than the inscribed radius by a factor of root 2. Use the area formula for a circle to calculate the areas of the circumscribed and inscribed circles. Subtract the smaller from the larger.
