Question 486808: A circular fountain has a diameter of 10 meters. How many square shaped tiles are needed to cover the bottom if each tile is 1 square decimeter?
Here's my answer, but I may have put the decimal in the wrong place:
100dm A= 3.14(50)2
A= 3.14(2500)
A= 7850 dm2 x $.69
Total cost= $5416.50
That seems really high for the cost. Should it be $541.65? Did I forget a step? Did I convert the meters to decimeters incorrectly?

You are doing fine.
Note that there is an assumption that these tiles can be used broken, otherwise one needs to add a few more.
The reason the count/cost seems high is that you are covering a good part of a football field out to the 30 yard line with 4 inch tiles.
