Question 430088: find the grade point average. Assume that the grade point values are 4.00 for an A, 3.00 for B and so on
grades.........# of credit hour
B.................5
B.................3
C.................4

Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the grade point average is the total grade points divided by the total credit hours.

grades.........# of credit hour
B.................5
B.................3
C.................4

Substitute numeric grade for alphabetic grade and the table becomes:

grades.........# of credit hour
3.................5
3.................3
2.................4

Total grade points is the grade times the number of credit hours.

Total grade points for first entry is 3 * 5 = 15
Total grade points for second entry is 3 * 3 = 9
Total grade points for third entry is 2 * 4 = 8

Total grade points is equal to 15 + 9 + 8 = 32
Total credit hours is equal to 5 + 3 + 4 = 12

Total grade point average is equal to 32 / 22 = 2.6666666667 which is equivalent to 2 and 2/3.
