Question 345477: A chord of length 16 units is 15 units away from the center of the circle . what is the radius of the circle ?
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Chord length =16
distance from center = 15
..
the line from the center to the chord bisects the chord at right angle.
so half the chord the radius and the line from center to chord form a right triangle.
radius = hypotenuse
half thechord = 8
distance from center = 15
r^2= 8^2+15^2
r^2=64+225
r^2=289
r= sqrt 289
r= 17
